*Yes, I am still alive!
Sorry for the sporadic posting – I’ll probably continue to post once or twice a week for right now. I’ll definitely still be following your blogs!
One of the things about food blogs is that I’m constantly seeing new things that I’ve never made before myself, or even sometimes tried. I decided the other day to start compiling a list of things I’d like to cook on my own and eat – a cooking and eating bucket list, if you will.
Cooking Bucket List
- Risotto
- Hummus
- Cake from scratch (I’ve made one with help…but I’d like to try it by myself!)
- Pizza
- Kale Chips
- Ravioli
- Frittata
- Omelet
- Pesto
Eating Bucket List
- Jicama
- Artichokes
- Grits
- Pimento Cheese
- Salmon
- Eggplant
It was perfect timing because Iowa Girl Eats had a DELICIOUS looking frittata recently on her blog. I gave it a whirl, and MAN I’m glad that I did!
It had me at goat cheese.
This was SO wonderful, and much easier than I thought! I don’t know why, but I always thought frittatas were so intimidating for some reason. It’s kind of just like a crustless quiche that you prepare on your stovetop?!
Another thing on my cooking (and eating) bucket list is risotto. I see it all the time on different blogs and always wonder what it tastes like!
Erica at the Healthy Junky posted this recipe for Creamy Butternut Squash Risotto, so I gave that a try this weekend.
Um, I didn’t realize how easy this was to make?! I loved that you can just pop it in the microwave and add in things from there. And VERY tasty – I’ll definitely repeat this.
Thanks for the recipes, Erica and Kristin!
What about you? Is there anything you’d like to try and make yourself, or maybe eat that you haven’t before? I know there are a LOT of things I need to add to my list!

I love this list! And don’t you fret about some of the cooking/baking. The pizza is so easy! And soooo good!
I have had artichokes before, but want to learn how to cook fresh artichokes (like stuffed ones). I’ve only worked with artichoke hearts from a can… they just look so intimidating, right???
What a great idea! I totally want to make a similar list! Gnocchi was on my list for a longggggg time and I finally gave it a go! Its a toughie- I’m still working on perfecting it. Risotto is incredible. Someone else was just telling me how difficult they thought risotto was to make – I told them it totally isn’t- just lots of stirring. I have been missing you!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you added the white wine! That made it taste awesome. I need to post soon. It’s been forever! Moving is so hectic! Hope you are enjoying summer!
I totally have a recipe list – I love this idea
Definitely need to turn it into a cooking bucket list! Jicama is soo good by the way! It’s crunchy and perfect in summer salads!
Love this! I have tons of must cook things…and my next thing on my “must eat” list is feta. I’ve never had it! have you?
Promise that pesto and hummus are easy to make (well, as long as you have a food processor that is haha)! Risotto was on my intimidated-to-cook list for a long time but I made it a couple months ago (stir on the stove-top and vegan to boot!) and it was fun to make and not as hard as I had pictured it would be.
Nice work on the frittata!
What a fun idea to make those lists! I’ve always wanted to make an apple pie from scratch (including the crust). That seems super intimidating and time-consuming, though, so I haven’t done it.
mmmmmmmmmm that grub looks tasty!!!!!
I’ve missed you!! Not liking this sporadic posting thing.
Just kidding! I am drooling at the frittata!!! I MUST make it!! I love your cooking/eating bucket list!! I vote you try the homemade pizza next, once you try it, you’ll never go back to takeout pizza again!!
This is such a great idea! I definitely need a cooking/eating bucket list!
I wouldn’t have thought risotto was easy either. And I need to make me some of those lists.
dude your food bucket list rocks!
grits are my fave hot cereal… because i make them with garlic and cheddar or sometimes just butter and pepper
grilled eggplant with garlic, parm cheese and a little bit of marinara sauce is heavenly!
kale chips are like rgular chips!
and pesto is suuuuper easy and delish and it freezes wonderfully!
jicama is okay… kinda like an asian pear but with less flavor
You have been BUSY!! I was wondering when you were going to post
Risotto is so easy and I love that it’s a one pan meal! You will think the same of pesto…couldn’t be easier!
I want to try making lamb. And bok choy! Both scare me!
I love anything with goat cheese! And while risotto takes time, well worth the wait.
Growing up the only vegetable I liked was cucumbers – turns out my mom just overcooked the hell out of veggies when I was young!
I’d also like to try a chocolate cake from scratch….I know I can do it!
MMMmmmmmmm, that butternut squash risotto looks awesome!!!!!!!! And Holly, I am so PROUD of you for putting pimento cheese and grits on your eating bucket list!!
Girl, come visit me in Atlanta and I will HOOK YOU UP!!
A foodie bucket list is such a cute idea! I’d love to try making spring rolls and homemade pasta from scratch!
Oh and something I’ve never eaten before is chicago style deep dish pizza!! That is definitely on my bucket list!!
i still havent ever made homemade pizza crust! i would LOVE TO MAKE IT!! i just need the patience to do so!
i want to try making ceviche at home, i love this dish but they don’t serve it many places around here (at least that i’ve found!) love the bucket list
That’s an awesome bucket list variation! I make a pretty mean hummus, if you want the recipe
Super duper easy!
Looks good! How on earth do you not eat grits?!?! SO SO good – go to Cracker Barrel and get some immediately!
I want to make bread from scratch, but never want to fool with it.
